Soundproofing Materials

Soundproofing materials are building products used to reduce the noise passing from one space to another. Available in different densities and properties, they block sound from travelling through walls, ceilings and floors and deliver genuine isolation.

  • Rock wool
  • Acoustic foam and melamine foam
  • Mass-loaded barrier membranes
  • Rubber and elastomeric materials

Frequently asked questions

What does each soundproofing material do?

Mass-loaded membrane and PVC barrier add mass and make it harder for sound to pass; melamine foam and cavity fill absorb the echo inside the wall; acoustic tape and seismic mounts stop vibration reaching the structure. The three work together.

Can I install the materials myself?

You can buy the materials on their own, but the result is decided by the details: the junctions, the socket and pipe penetrations, the strip under the framing. One open joint takes away most of what you gained.
