About the project

For Workinton, fabric-wrapped baffle ceiling panels with a glass-wool core were fitted to reduce the echo and noise in the corridors. Hanging vertically and open on both faces, they absorb sound from either side and steady the acoustics of the space. The glass-wool core absorbs a high proportion of the sound that reaches it, which keeps corridor noise under control. With their fabric faces and regular layout, the panels improve acoustic comfort and give the ceiling a contemporary character at the same time.

Zorluk

Echo and noise in the Workinton corridors were undermining the acoustic comfort of the whole space — sound was not being controlled even in the circulation areas. The long, narrow corridors let sound waves bounce between surfaces, which weakened both the experience of using the space and how it reads.

Our solution

Fabric-wrapped baffle ceiling panels with a glass-wool core were hung vertically from the ceiling. Open and modular, the system absorbs sound on both faces, bringing echo under control and steadying the acoustics. The high-performance glass-wool core contributed substantially to the drop in noise, while the fabric faces kept the detailing in line with the brand.

Results

Acoustic comfort in the corridors improved markedly and the overall sound balance of the space settled. The regular, rhythmic layout of the baffles gave the ceiling a contemporary character that strengthens the architecture. The project treats circulation space as worth getting right acoustically, not just somewhere to pass through.
