Ümraniye Municipality — Rideva Conference Hall
Istanbul · 2025
About the project
In the Ümraniye Municipality conference hall, fabric-wrapped acoustic panels were applied to the walls to improve the acoustics and give the interior a considered look. The panels absorb sound, cutting the echo that builds during conferences and events so that speech carries clearly. The columns in the hall were clad in timber slats over acoustic felt to tie the architecture together. The natural timber gives the hall a warmer, more contemporary feel and adds to the acoustic performance at the same time. The result works both as an interior and as a room to speak in.
Zorluk
Events in the hall suffered from echo and scattered sound, which made speech hard to follow; the room also needed a look that matched the institution. Its large volume and the number of hard surfaces worked against the acoustics, while the existing architectural elements did little to pull the interior together.
Our solution
Fabric-wrapped acoustic panels on the walls substantially reduced echo and noise. With the sound being absorbed rather than reflected, speech became clearer during conferences and events and the acoustics settled. The columns were clad in timber slats over acoustic felt, which added absorption and pulled the architecture together. The natural timber gives the hall a warmer, more contemporary atmosphere.

Results
The acoustics of the hall improved markedly and speech became far easier to follow, which lifted the experience for everyone using it. The interior now reads as more ordered and more contemporary. The project delivers acoustic comfort and design together in a public building.
